The “Gardens Without Borders” project, which has seen the creation of a series of gardens in Luxembourg, France and Germany, is proof that for partners in the Saar-Lor-Lux region European cooperation is a practical reality, not just a buzzword.

The gardens have really enhanced the region’s appeal for tourists, but are also a colourful and vivid representation of a piece of shared cultural history.

Sight, smell, taste and hearing – visitors can enjoy Kreuzberg in Merzig with all their senses. A succession of eleven garden rooms are waiting to be discovered at the extensive site. They include the beautiful rose garden, with its variety of rose types and the colourful under planted shrubs in matching colours. The unique shingle garden provides the unusual micro climate required for numerous thermophilic shrubs to flourish.

The children’s play garden with sand pits and swings help to make the garden an ideal destination for families with young children. Anyone who wants to spend more time in the sensory garden after walking around the site can relax over coffee and cakes in the garden bistro or browse for garden tools, souvenirs and specialist books in the adjacent shop.

An absolute must for visitors is the “Merzig Rose Weekend” on the second weekend of June every year, a rose and garden market that combines art, culture, music and culinary delights.

1st April to 14th May and 16th Sept to 31st Oct:
Tuesday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00 and on weekends and public holidays from 11:00 to 17:00.
15th May to 15th Sept:
Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 19:00.
